At our August Tech Leading Ladies event, we were privileged to host the exceptional Kim Spillman, General Manager from Midnyte City who delved into ‘Stakeholder Engagement & Management’. This topic is an essential part of technical leadership and growing this skill is a crucial step towards empowering our community in technical leadership roles.
In this talk, Kim explored the following key aspects of Stakeholder Engagement and Management
- Identifying Stakeholders: We looked at the benefits of stakeholder mapping, and how this impacts our communication, decision making and strategic direction.
- Building Trust with Stakeholders: Once we know who our stakeholders are, how do we build trust and ensure we meet mutual expectations?
- Communication: Kim shared applicable tips and tricks from the trenches, and ways we can improve both written and verbal communication with stakeholders.
- Dealing with Difficult Stakeholders: While not something we want to experience – we need to be prepared for this. Kim shared methods for dealing with difficult situations and getting back to a position of trust.
By the end of the session, everyone had a thorough understanding of how to achieve success with stakeholders.
For a more in-depth exploration of this integral topic, I highly recommend diving into Kim’s enlightening blog post titled ‘Stakeholder Mapping – the key to effective decision making’.
